Montverde Academy softball closed out the regular season in dominant fashion Tuesday evening, defeating Cheverus High School 13-2 in six innings at the MVA Softball Complex.

With the win, the Eagles improve to 17-4 overall and carry strong momentum into the postseason. MVA is expected to earn a high seed in the upcoming Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) Class 2A District 6 Tournament and will likely host a semifinal matchup on Tuesday, April 28.

Despite a relatively tight game early, the Eagles broke things open late, scoring 11 of their 13 runs across the fifth and sixth innings to secure the victory via the 10-run mercy rule.

MVA took an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning before Cheverus responded with a run in the top of the fifth to make it 2-1. The Eagles answered emphatically, plating five runs in the bottom half of the inning to extend the lead to 7-1. After the Stags added another run in the sixth, MVA put the game away with six runs in the bottom of the inning, highlighted by a walk-off grand slam from Cali Flowers.

Flowers finished 1-for-3 with four RBIs on the grand slam, while Addie Poe went 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored, and four RBIs. Missy Odom went a perfect 3-for-3 and scored twice. Elena Friedman contributed with a triple, finishing 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBIs.

Odom also starred in the circle, tossing a complete game. She allowed just two unearned runs on six hits while striking out 11 batters over six innings.

MVA will now turns its focus to postseason play, where the Eagles look to carry their late-season momentum into the district tournament on a quest to win it for the thirteenth consecutive time.
