Montverde Academy's softball team put on an offensive showcase Thursday night, cruising past Lake Weir 18-3 at the Montverde Academy Softball Complex. Senior catcher Danika Spinogatti made history in the win, breaking the Montverde Academy softball career record for most runs batted when she drove in runs 90 and 91 on a two-run home run in the bottom of the fourth inning (she was tied for the all-time lead with 89 heading into the at-bat). She finished the night 2-for-2 with a double, three runs and two runs batted in.
As far as the rest of the game, the Eagles wasted no time setting the tone, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first and five in the bottom of the second to lead 8-0 after two inning, en route to the four inning 15-run mercy rule win.
MVA pounded out 17 hits with an offensive attack that saw five players record multiple hits. Junior Colby Reish was a perfect 3-for-3 smacking a double and driving in four runs. Senior Leila Susaia was also flawless, going 3-for-3 with two runs scored and a run batted in
Elena Friedman and Addie Poe each turned in 3-for-4 performances, combining for four runs and two runs batted in. Poe added a triple to her stat line, while freshman La'Breah Sands contributed with three runs batted in of her own.
Missy Odom was 1-for-2 with a home run and three runs batted in and in the circle, Odom was just as impressive, tossing 2.2 innings of one-hit ball while striking out eight to earn the win.
The Eagles are now 7-0 on the season and return to the field on Monday March 17 for a game at home against Baker County at 5:00 pm.
