MONTVERDE, Fla. (April 18, 2025) — The Montverde Academy boys lacrosse team has earned the No. 8 seed in the upcoming Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) Regional Championship Tournament and will travel to face top-seeded The Benjamin School in the opening round on Saturday, April 26 (time TBA).
If the Eagles defeat The Benjamin School, they will advance to the regional semifinal on Wednesday, April 30, where they'll face the winner between No. 4 seed Lake Highland Prep and No. 5 seed St. Edward's School.
A potential appearance in the regional championship game would set up a matchup against one of four contenders: No. 2 seed Bishop Moore, No. 3 seed Jesuit, No. 6 seed Holy Trinity, or No. 7 seed The First Academy.
The Eagles (9-9) are coming off a strong season that included a trip to the district semifinal round, where they fell to Bishop Moore on April 14. Montverde earned that spot with a 13-6 victory over Trinity Prep in the district quarterfinals on April 10.
Montverde Academy is led by Blake Kuhn, who tops the team with 27 goals and 24 assists this season. Gavin Ionelli is second in scoring with 25 goals, while goalkeeper Sam Juhnke has been a defensive anchor, logging over 600 minutes in net, making 181 saves, and posting a .603 save percentage.
The winner of the regional tournament will earn a berth in the FHSAA State Semifinals, scheduled for May 8 at Paradise Coast Sports Complex in Naples, Florida. The state championship game will take place on May 10.
