The Montverde Academy girls volleyball team put together a strong performance on Tuesday evening at The Nest defeating The Villages Charter 3-0 (25-23, 25-16, 25-23) With the win, the Eagles improved their season record to 9-4.

The Eagles showed grit in the opening and closing sets, winning both by just two points. In the third set, the Eagles trailed by as many as six before mounting an impressive late rally to secure the sweep. The second set saw the Eagles control the pace throughout, closing it out with a comfortable margin.

Several Eagles delivered key performances across the board:

• Mirea Thederahn: six kills, seven digs

• Isabella Parra: four kills, 13 assists, nine digs

• Kristina Vargas: 11 assists, two service aces

• Mya Tyson: four kills, two blocks

• Gabi Carvalho: four kills, three blocks

• Natalia Baquerizo: four kills, five digs, two service aces

The Eagles return to the court on Thursday for a match against Windermere Prep. The junior varsity match begins at 5:00 p.m., followed by the varsity at 6:30 p.m.

* Earlier in the evening the junior varsity team lost 0-2 (13-25, 24-26). Gabrielle Moise and Antonella Gonzalez had four kills each in the match.
