The Montverde Academy girls soccer team earned a commanding 8-0 victory over West Orange High School on Monday night at Dan Newlin Injury Attorney Stadium.
Junior forward Lola Rey sparked the offense early, scoring in the 23rd minute off a pass from Veronica Solano. Just ten minutes later, Brianna Burkhalter added another goal on a solo run, and Joy Palacios converted a penalty kick to make it 3-0.
Solano capped off the first half with a goal of her own in the 39th minute. Rey struck again just after halftime, finishing a setup from Burkhalter to extend the lead to 5-0.
Caroline Ritchey, Marta Arbenina, and Alessandra Jimenez each added second-half goals, with assists from Fiona Valtonen and Samar Kaddoura. Jimenez led all players with six shots and capped the night with a goal in the final minute.
Rey finished with two goals, while goalkeeper Alyssa Strausbaugh recorded a clean sheet with one save.
Montverde Academy outshot West Orange 28-4 and held a 9-2 edge in corner kicks.Â
