The Montverde Academy girls basketball team used a dominant second quarter to pull away and secure a 70-42 victory over the Academy of Central Florida on Wednesday evening at The Nest.
After a tightly contested opening period that saw ACF hold a slim 14-13 lead at the end of the first quarter, Montverde Academy flipped the momentum in emphatic fashion. The Eagles outscored the visitors 29-10 in the second quarter, building a commanding 42-24 advantage by halftime.
Montverde Academy continued to control the game in the second half, relying on balanced scoring and a decisive edge on the boards. The Eagles finished the night with a 45-23 rebounding advantage and capitalized on extra opportunities, posting a 17-1 edge in second-chance points.
Four Eagles reached double figures in scoring, led by Kendall Perry with a game-high 16 points. Mia-Elle Lieverst added 13 points, while Jamila Ray recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Jayla Forbes also chipped in 11 points to go along with seven rebounds.
With the win, Montverde Academy improves to 11-2 on the season.
The Eagles will hit the road next, returning to action on Saturday for day one of the Martin Luther King Classic in Atlanta, Georgia. MVAÂ is set to face Bartlett High School at 8:00 p.m.
