The Montverde Academy girls soccer team has earned the No. 1 seed for the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) Class 3A District 6 tournament following a dominant regular season.
As the top seed, the Eagles receive a first-round bye and will host a district semifinal matchup on Thursday, January 22, at Montverde Academy. MVA will face the winner of Tuesday's play-in game between No. 4 seed Umatilla High School and No. 5 seed South Sumter High School.
With a victory in the semifinal, Montverde Academy would advance to the district championship game on Tuesday, January 27, also at home. The Eagles' potential championship opponent would come from the other semifinal between No. 2 Lake Highland Prep and No. 3 The Villages Charter.
Montverde Academy secured the top seed after finishing the regular season with an impressive 14-1-1 overall record. The Eagles are also currently ranked No. 3 nationally in the latest MaxPreps national girls soccer rankings.
Offensively, MVA has been led by Lola Rey, who paces the team with 16 goals on the season. Caroline Ritchey has added seven goals, while Alessandra Jimenez has contributed six. In the playmaking department, Brianna Burkhalter leads the team with 16 assists, followed by Vienna Morgan with eight.
Defensively, goalkeeper Alyssa Strasbaugh has anchored the back line, recording 16 saves and posting an outstanding 0.43 goals-against average.
Montverde Academy enters postseason play seeking its fourth consecutive district championship and continues its pursuit of a fifth state championship in program history.
