The Montverde Academy girls soccer team continued its championship tradition capturing the 2026 Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) Class 3A District 6 championship with a 3-0 victory over Lake Highland Prep at Dan Newlin Injury Attorney Stadium on a frigid Tuesday evening.
The win marked the fourth consecutive district championship for the Eagles and came in a familiar setting, as the two programs met in a rematch of last season's district final—also won by Montverde Academy after a scoreless draw that was decided by penalty kicks.
This year, the Eagles left no doubt.
The match was tightly contested throughout the first half, with both teams defending well and limiting quality scoring chances. Montverde Academy finally broke through late in the opening period, as Lola Rey found the back of the net with less than three minutes to go before halftime. The goal provided a crucial breakthrough and sent the Eagles into the break with a 1-0 lead.
The Eagles wasted little time extending their advantage after the break. Just seven minutes into the second half, Isadora Santiago doubled the lead with a goal in the 48th minute, giving Montverde Academy momentum and control of the match. Vienna Morgan added the finishing touch in the 61st minute, scoring Montverde Academy's third goal to put the contest out of reach.
As the match progressed, Montverde Academy continued to apply pressure in the attacking third and finished the contest with a 12-6 advantage in shots. Rey led all players with a game-high six shots, consistently creating problems for the Lake Highland Prep defense.
Defensively, Montverde Academy was once again dominant. Goalkeeper Alyssa Strausbaugh recorded two saves to secure the shutout. The clean sheet was the 13th shutout of the season for the Eagles and the 14th time this year Montverde Academy has held an opponent scoreless.
With the district championship secured, Montverde Academy now turns its attention to the regional tournament. Ranked No. 3 nationally overall and No. 1 nationally among prep schools, the Eagles anticipate earning the No. 1 seed and hosting a quarterfinal matchup on Monday, February 2. Their opponent will be announced following the release of the official FHSAA bracket.
The FHSAA will unveil the regional bracket live on its YouTube channel on Thursday, January 29, at 7:00 p.m. The regional semifinals are scheduled for Monday, February 9, with the regional championship set for Friday, February 13.
As postseason play continues, Montverde Academy continues to set the standard—adding yet another chapter to an already impressive championship legacy.
