Girls Soccer Earns No. 1 Seed in FHSAA Class 3A Region 2

MONTVERDE, Fla. (January 30, 2026) — The Montverde Academy girls soccer team has earned the No. 1 seed in the 2026 Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) Class 3A Region 2 playoffs, securing home-field advantage throughout the regional tournament.

The Eagles will open regional play by hosting No. 8 seed Astronaut High School in the quarterfinal round on Monday, February 2, at 7:00 p.m. With a victory, the Eagles advance to the regional semifinal on Monday, February 9, where they would host the winner of the quarterfinal matchup between No. 4 seed Calvary Christian (Clearwater) and No. 5 seed Tampa Catholic.

A semifinal round win would send the Eagles to the regional championship match for the fourth consecutive season. MVA would host the winner emerging from the opposite side of the bracket, which includes No. 2 seed Lake Highland Prep, No. 3 seed McKeel Academy, No. 6 seed Academy of the Holy Names, and No. 7 seed The Villages.

Montverde Academy earned the top seed after capturing the district championship last week, defeating Umatilla High School 8-0 in the semifinal round on January 22 before beating Lake Highland Prep 3-0 in the district final on January 27. The Eagles enter the regional tournament with a 16-1-1 overall record and are currently ranked No. 3 nationally and No. 1 among prep schools.

MVA has been dominant on both ends of the field, outscoring opponents 72-6 this season. Montverde Academy has recorded 13 shutouts and has held opponents scoreless in 14 matches.

Offensively, Lola Rey leads the team with 17 goals, followed by Caroline Ritchey with nine. Brianna Burkhalter paces the Eagles in assists with 17, while Vienna Morgan has added 10. In goal, Alyssa Strausbaugh has logged more than 1,200 minutes, recording 18 saves and posting a 0.38 goals-against average.

With a regional championship, Montverde Academy would advance to the FHSAA state semifinal round in Auburndale in late February as the Eagles continue their pursuit of their fifth state championship in program history.
