The Montverde Academy boys basketball team put together a wire-to-wire performance on Friday night, defeating The Villages Charter 59-45 at The Nest.
MVA controlled the game from the opening tip, never trailing at any point. The Eagles established their presence inside and finished with a 32-16 advantage on points in the paint while also holding a 17-2 edge in points off turnovers.Â
MVA led 18-10 at the end of the first quarter and 29-22 at halftime. The Eagles outscored the Buffalo 16-5 in the decisive third quarter to pull away in the second half. MVA led by as much as 22 early in the fourth quarter, en route to the win.
Oneal Delancy led all scorers with a team-high 14 points. Derek Daniels delivered an impactful all-around performance, finishing with 12 points, four rebounds, and four blocked shots to anchor Montverde Academy defensively in the paint. Dhani Miller also reached double figures with 12 points to go along with three rebounds, while Javion Tyndale stuffed the stat sheet with 10 points, five rebounds, and a game-high seven assists, consistently setting up teammates. Joe Philon III rounded out the scoring leaders with 10 points and two steals.
With the win, Montverde Academy improves to 7-4 overall this season.
The Eagles return to the court on Friday, January 16, when they face Oak Hill Academy in day one of the Hoophall Classic in Springfield, Massachusetts. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
