Montverde, Fla. (October 9, 2026) – The Montverde Academy girls volleyball team will begin its pursuit of a third consecutive district championship at home after earning the No. 2 seed in the FHSAA Class 3A District 6 tournament.
The Eagles will host No. 7 seed Tenoroc High School in the quarterfinal round on Monday, October 12, at 7 p.m. at The Nest.
A quarterfinal victory would send MVA into the semifinal round on Tuesday, October 13, when the Eagles would host the winner of the matchup between No. 3 seed Atlantic High School and No. 6 seed Discovery High School.
Should the Eagles advance through the semifinals, they would compete for their third straight district championship on Thursday, October 15. MVA would either travel to No. 1 seed Lake Highland Prep if the Highlanders reach the final, or play at home against either No. 4 seed Nova Lakes, No. 5 seed Four Corners or No. 8 seed Liberty.
MVA enters the postseason with a 10-12 overall record after navigating one of the toughest schedules in Florida. The Eagles closed the regular season with a five-set victory at Windermere, providing momentum as they turn their attention toward defending their district title.
The Eagles enter tournament play with contributions across the lineup. Natalia Baquerizo leads the offense with 155 kills, followed by Suhmer Henriques with 131 and Bianca Baquerizo with 119.
Kristina Vargas has directed the attack with a team-leading 317 assists, while Leticia Cordeiro has added 261. Vargas recently became MVA's all-time career assists leader, adding another milestone to her senior season. She now only need 38 more to become the first player in MVA history to amass 1,000 career assists.
Defensively, Eva Bardales leads the Eagles with 242 digs and 324 serve receives. Henriques has contributed 178 digs while also becoming the program's all-time career blocks leader earlier this season.
Janiyah Miller leads MVA with 66 blocks and 41 service aces, making an impact both at the net and from the service line.
With a challenging regular season behind them and another championship opportunity ahead, the Eagles will look to turn their experience into postseason success. Their title defense begins Monday night in front of the home crowd at The Nest.
