The Montverde Academy boys weightlifting team split a pair of decisions in a dual meet Wednesday afternoon at Foundation Academy, narrowly winning the Olympic competition 42–41 while falling 50–34 in the Traditional discipline.
Several Eagles recorded first-place finishes across the weight classes, highlighted by multiple individual victories in Olympic lifting.
At 119 pounds, Jacob Martinez led the Eagles with a first-place finish in the Olympic discipline, totaling 215 pounds with a 90-pound snatch and a 125-pound clean and jerk. Martinez also finished second in Traditional with a 125-pound bench press.
At 129 pounds, Oliver Sari placed second in Olympic lifting with a 210-pound total (95 snatch, 115 clean and jerk) and added a 130-pound bench press in Traditional.
MVA had a strong presence in the 139-pound class, where Ethan Seetahal placed second in Olympic with a 290-pound total (125 snatch, 165 clean and jerk). Tristan Milliken finished third in Olympic with a 220-pound total.
At 154 pounds, Lukas Walker finished second in Olympic lifting with a 275-pound total (120 snatch, 155 clean and jerk).
The Eagles picked up one of their top individual performances in the 169-pound division, where Jacob Moore swept both disciplines. Moore won Olympic with a 295-pound total (130 snatch, 165 clean and jerk) and also captured first place in Traditional with a 200-pound bench press.
At 183 pounds, Grant McKee delivered another standout effort, winning the Olympic discipline with a 375-pound total (160 snatch, 215 clean and jerk) while finishing second in Traditional with a 210-pound bench press. Teammate Quentin Gunasekera added a 325-pound Olympic total and a 175-pound bench press.
At 199 pounds, Titus Declercq placed second in Olympic with a 370-pound total (160 snatch, 210 clean and jerk) and lifted 180 pounds in the bench press.
In the 219-pound class, Miguelangel Fernandez Hernandez recorded a 205-pound Olympic total and a 145-pound bench press.
At 238 pounds, Zexu Li earned a first-place finish in Olympic lifting with a 345-pound total after successfully lifting 150 pounds in the snatch and 195 pounds in the clean and jerk. Li also recorded a 145-pound bench press in Traditional.
MVA returns to action on Thursday, April 9 for the FHSAA District championship at Foundation Academy.
