The Montverde Academy boys lacrosse team delivered a thrilling comeback victory on Friday evening, defeating Calvary Christian 5-4 at Dan Newlin Injury Attorney Stadium.
The Eagles found themselves in an early hole, trailing 4-1 at halftime after Calvary Christian controlled much of the opening two quarters. However, MVA came out of the break with renewed energy and completely flipped the momentum in the second half.
MVA shut out the visitors over the final twenty-four minutes while mounting an impressive offensive surge. The Eagles scored three goals in the third quarter to erase the deficit and tie the game at 4-4 heading into the final period. With the game on the line in the fourth quarter, MVA netted the lone goal of the frame to complete the comeback and secure the 5-4 victory.
Blake Kuhn led the way offensively with two goals. Tanner Moore, Nate Kuhn, and Gavin Ionelli each added a goal apiece. Nate Kuhn also contributed an assist, while Evan Flanagan recorded one assist as well.
Defensively, Nate Diaz made his presence felt with a team-high five ground balls.
In goal, Angelo Ranaldi turned in a standout performance, facing 16 shots and making 13 saves for an impressive .810 save percentage, helping anchor the Eagles' second-half shutout.
With the win, Montverde Academy improves to 5-11 on the season.
The Eagles will return to action on Monday, March 30, when they host Horizon High School at 7:00 p.m. at Dan Newlin Injury Attorney Stadium.
