The Montverde Academy boys weightlifting team competed on Thursday afternoon at the FHSAA meet held at Frostproof Middle and Senior High School in Frostproof, Florida, finishing ninth out of 13 teams in both the Traditional and Olympic divisions.
Montverde turned in several strong individual performances across both disciplines, highlighted by multiple top-five finishes against a competitive field.
Traditional (Bench Press + Clean & Jerk)
- 119 lbs: Jacob Martinez — 3rd place, 280 total (145 bench, 135 clean & jerk)
- 119 lbs: Tyler Waters — 11th place, 210 total (105 bench, 105 clean & jerk)
- 183 lbs: Grant McKee — 2nd place, 430 total (210 bench, 220 clean & jerk)
- 183 lbs: Quentin Gunasekera — 9th place, 360 total (180 bench, 180 clean & jerk)
- 219 lbs: Rimon Du — 5th place, 485 total (235 bench, 250 clean & jerk)
Olympic (Snatch + Clean & Jerk)
- 119 lbs: Jacob Martinez — 3rd place, 230 total (95 snatch, 135 clean & jerk)

- 129 lbs: Ethan Seetahal — 5th place, 295 total (125 snatch, 170 clean & jerk)

Montverde Academy will now await official results to determine which athletes qualify for the FHSAA State Championships, scheduled for Friday, May 8 at 10:00 a.m. at the RP Funding Center in Lakeland, Florida.
