Montverde Academy boys weightlifting standout Rimon Du is headed to the biggest stage of the season, earning a spot at the 2026 Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) Class 1A State championship meet on Friday, May 8 at the RP Funding Center in Lakeland.

Du will compete in the 219-pound weight class in the Olympic category after a strong showing at the regional meet, where he established himself among the top lifters in the field. He placed fourth overall with a combined total of 435 pounds, recording lifts of 185 pounds in the snatch and 250 pounds in the clean & jerk.

His 250-pound clean & jerk not only helped secure his qualification—it also marked a personal best, highlighting his continued development and readiness for the state stage.

Du's accomplishment is significant for the Montverde Academy program, as he becomes just the fourth boys weightlifter in school history to qualify for the state championship meet. He joins a select group of Eagles who have reached this level, including Chris Tanis '25 (unlimited) and Rishi Gandhi '25 (139 lbs) in 2025, and James Tanis '22 (219 lbs) in 2022.

Now, Du carries that tradition forward.

As he prepares for the state meet, Du brings confidence, momentum, and a proven ability to perform.. Competing against the top lifters from across Florida, he will look to build on his regional success and deliver another strong performance for the Eagles.
