For the tenth edition of the Senior Spotlight, Sports Media student Kendall Payne speaks with Titus DeClercq who is a member of the Montverde Academy boys weightlifting program.
---------------------------------------------------------------
At Montverde Academy, strength is built through consistency, effort, and mindset, and senior Titus Declercq has embraced all three through his journey in weightlifting. Known for his determination and sense of humor, Titus has become a dedicated member of the Eagles' program.
Titus first got into weightlifting during his freshman year with a simple goal in mind.
"I wanted to join the weightlifting team so I could become big and strong," he said.
What started as a way to improve physically quickly turned into a commitment that shaped his high school experience.
Like any strength sport, weightlifting comes with its challenges. "I have to pick heavy things up," Titus joked, but behind that humor is the reality of a demanding sport that requires both physical and mental toughness. Staying consistent isn't always easy, but he pushes through. "I try my best to stay focused," he said about maintaining discipline even on tough days.
When it comes to his lifts, Titus takes the most pride in the clean and jerk, a movement that combines power, technique, and control, showcasing the strength he's built over the years.
As his senior year comes to a close, Titus reflects on what he'll miss most about Montverde. "I'll miss the people the most, my teammates and the friendships I've built here," he shared, highlighting the connections that made his experience meaningful.
Through his time at Montverde Academy, Titus has shown that growth isn't just about physical strength, it's about showing up, putting in the work, and staying committed. As he moves on to the next chapter, his journey stands as a reminder that progress comes one lift at a time.
