Montverde Academy girls volleyball improved to 8–5 with a 3–1 win at Hagerty High School on Tuesday night, as Kristina Vargas became the program's all-time assists leader during the first set.

Vargas entered the match with 844 career assists, two shy of the record held by Aimee Stemples '21. The Eagles celebrated the milestone in the opening set, and Vargas finished the night with 28 assists, six digs and an ace. She now has 872 career assists.

MVA won the first set 25–22 before Hagerty answered with a 25–18 victory. The Eagles pulled out a close third set, 25–23, then took command of the fourth, 25–15.

The Eagles' blocking helped slow Hagerty's outside hitter. Gabi Carvalho recorded five blocks, while Amelie added four and Janiyah Miller had three. Carvalho, Miller and Bianca Baquerizo each finished with eight kills. Suhmer Henriques added seven kills, three blocks and two aces.

Eva Bardales kept Hagerty under pressure from the service line with five aces and collected nine digs. Miller added 10 digs, while Natalia Baquerizo contributed four kills, three blocks and eight digs.

Earlier in the evening, MVA's junior varsity team fell to Hagerty 2–0, losing 25–20 and 25–13. The JV Eagles are now 7–6.

MVA returns to action Thursday for a doubleheader at Trinity Catholic. The first match begins at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity match at 6:30 p.m.
