The Montverde Academy girls volleyball team used a balanced offensive attack to earn a 3-0 sweep of Mount Dora High School on Tuesday evening at The Nest.

The Eagles captured the match by scores of 25-22, 25-20 and 25-21 to improve to 4-1 overall on the season.

Three Eagles shared team-high honors with five kills apiece as Janiyah Miller, Mya Tyson and Antonella Gonzalez-D'Ambrosio helped lead the MVA attack.

Miller turned in a strong all-around performance, adding a team-high four service aces along with three digs. Tyson contributed three digs and two blocks, while Gonzalez-D'Ambrosio recorded two service aces and three digs.

Defensively, Talia Alqawasmi led the Eagles with six digs as MVA kept Mount Dora from extending the match and completed the straight-set victory.

Earlier in the evening, the MVA junior varsity team fell to Mount Dora, 2-0, by scores of 25-15 and 25-13. Zaylie Zeman led the Eagles with seven kills in the loss. The JV team is now 3-2 on the season.

MVA returns to The Nest on Tuesday, September 15, for a home doubleheader against New Smyrna Beach. The junior varsity match begins at 4:30 p.m., followed by the varsity match at 6 p.m.

The varsity match will also serve as Senior Night, as MVA celebrates the eight seniors on this year's team: Bianca Baquerizo, Natalia Baquerizo, Antonella Gonzalez-D'Ambrosio, Suhmer Henriques, Amelie Jenkins, Janiyah Miller, Rosabella Palanti and Kristina Vargas.
