About Montverde Academy Tennis
Montverde Academy Tennis (MAT) is an advanced program for grades 6-12 and post-graduate studies, and one of the best high school tennis programs offered in the state of Florida. The Academy consists of professional, customized development plans and tournament schedules that sets each athlete on a path for success to reach their peak potential. Not only will student-athletes play in high school competitions, but also compete in the United States Tennis Association (USTA), Universal Tennis Rating (UTR) events, and the International Tennis Federation (ITF) tournaments to help their game.

Elite Tennis Coaching
The Montverde Academy Tennis program is directed and coached by a former athlete from Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), Roland Garros doubles finalist, and Brazilian Davis Cup player, Jaime Oncins. With 30 plus years of experience, Oncins has led the Montverde Academy high school boys and tennis teams to three state finals since his debut in 2015. In 2019, Oncins was selected by the Brazilian National Tennis Federation to be Captain of the Brazilian National Tennis Team for the premier international tournament in men's professional tennis, the Davis Cup. Also in Lima, Peru 2019 Oncins was the coach for the Brazilian Team at the Pan-American games leading Joao Menezes to the gold medal. Right after that, in 2021, he was the captain of the Brazilian Olympic Team for the Tokyo 2021 Olympic Games, reaching the bronze medal in women’s doubles (Luisa Stefani and Laura Pigossi). His goal for the tennis program is to have every student-athlete reach their full potential both on and off the court and strive to help them compete at the collegiate level.

Jaime has also worked with top players such as Flavio Saretta , Andre Sa, Enrique Cunha, Nicolas Santos, and Gastao Elias. Jaime's credentials include:
- Best ATP Singles ranking 34 in the world
- Best ATP Doubles Ranking 21 in the world
- Competed in the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games
- Quarter finalist in the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games - defeated Michael Chang (#2 in the world)
- In 1992 he defeated Ivan Lendl on his way to the fourth round of the French Open
- Played in Davis Cup for 11 years
- Two ATP Tour titles
- Five ATP doubles titles
- Qualified for the ATP doubles masters
- Doubles Semi-finalist in the French Open 2000
- Mixed doubles finalist in the French Open 2001
Jaime Oncins began his tennis career at the age of six and started his professional career at 18. His expertise and experience in the tennis field provides student athletes the ideal development program to build their skills and continue their careers at the next level.
ABOUT MONTVERDE ACADEMY
Our athletics programs have earned notable distinctions that include 18 national championship titles and more than 94 student-athletes are playing professionally. We offer 22 varsity sports programs and elite programs for boys’ basketball, boys’ soccer, tennis, golf, swim, and girls’ soccer. Montverde Academy offers a strong, competitive athletic program and belongs to the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA). Athletic programs at Montverde Academy have achieved considerable local, regional, and national success.
MVA Fine Arts is among the best arts programs in Florida, allowing talented students to focus on their passion for music, theatre, and the arts. Media Arts have earned two National Student Emmys and a Scholastic Gold Medal in 2019. Since 2018, Theatre has earned six Critic's Choice awards, Top Honors at State contests, and Dr. Phillips Applause Awards. Our Music program has two All-National vocalists, 10 All-State musicians, and three musicians who earned the honor of performing at Carnegie Hall.
