Michael Damon joined the team at Montverde Academy in February 2022. Through his vision, creativity, and leadership, Michael Damon has helped establish Montverde Academy as one of the premier schools in the country for athletics communications.
He oversees the communications efforts for the Academy's athletics department's varsity, junior varsity and middle school teams and its approximately combined 600 student-athletes. In addition to that, Damon's voice can be heard at Montverde Academy Upper School varsity games. Dubbed by some on campus as "The Voice of Montverde Academy Athletics," Damon serves as public address announcer for a multitude of varsity teams, including girls' basketball, boys' soccer, girls' soccer, baseball, softball and girls' volleyball,.
Damon has a wealth of sports knowledge and sports information experience. Prior to his appointment with the Eagles, Damon served the previous six and a half years as an independent contractor serving as a sports information assistant in various roles for college sports information offices around Central Florida, including UCF, Stetson University, Rollins College, Embry-Riddle University and Bethune-Cookman University. He also has assisted in major sporting events around Central Florida, including The ESPN Events Invitational at ESPN Wide World of Sports as well as the first two rounds of the NCAA Division I college basketball tournament at the Amway Center (now Kia Center) in Orlando. He has also served as official scorer for several professional baseball teams and leagues, including the Daytona Tortugas, a single A minor league affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds and the Florida Collegiate Summer League, a wood bat league during the summer months for college baseball players.
Prior to that, Damon served as Sports Information Director at Yeshiva University in New York City for two years and John Jay College of Criminal Justice, also in New York City, for eight years. While at both institutions, Damon oversaw the media coverage which landed those institutions numerous feature stories at prestigious media outlets, including ESPN and the USA Today among others. While at John Jay, Damon oversaw the original design and launch of the athletics department’s official website, complete with rosters, schedules and stories. Damon’s experience also includes serving as a Sports Information Coordinator at Keuka College, located in the Finger Lakes section of upstate New York.
A Queens, New York native, Damon's experience also includes serving as a game day sports information assistant for over a combined 50 sports leagues, teams, colleges and universities dating back to 2003. He has since helped in several capacities including official scorekeeper, statistician, public address announcer and play-by-play announcer for various sports. His first freelance opportunity came in March of 2003 when he served as an official statistician for the first round of an NCAA Division III men's basketball tournament game at the University of Rochester.
In addition to his Sports Information duties, Damon serves as an instructor on campus where he teaches a Sports Media elective class to Montverde Academy's Upper School students. Due to his efforts, several students have moved forward and worked independently on projects covering Montverde Academy athletics teams.
Damon is a 2002 graduate from SUNY Cortland where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communications. As an undergraduate student, he served as a disc jockey for the student radio station, was the sports editor for the student newspaper and intern with the University's sports information office.
Damon is an active member of College Sports Communicators (CSC), a national organization of people in the sports information field. He serves on its CSC U committee, which is a committee responsible for educating college students in the field of sports communications.
Damon is married to his wife Brandy who serves as Study Hall / After Care supervisor in Montverde Academy's Middle School. Together, they reside in Montverde with their pet cat, Marsh.
