The Montverde Academy girls soccer team remained unbeaten after a 5-1 home victory over XL Academy on Tuesday evening.
The Eagles jumped out to an early lead in the 11th minute when Vienna Morgan found the back of the net, after a clear attempt by the XL Academy goalkeeper ricocheted off of her.
XL Academy equalized seven minutes later, but MVA quickly regained control. In the 25th minute, Alessandra Jimenez put the Eagles back in front 2-1 with a goal assisted by Morgan. Then just over two minutes later, Morgan struck again, scoring her second goal of the match off an assist from Brianna Burkhalter to make it 3-1 by halftime.
MVA kept the pressure on in the second half. Lola Rey extended the lead in the 55th minute, before Isabella Marin capped off the scoring with a goal assisted by Isabella Igua.
Goalkeeper Alyssa Strasbaugh, meanwhile, made two saves in the win. MVA held an 8-7 advantage in total shots, led by Morgan with three and Rey with two.
With the victory, Montverde Academy improves to 3-0-1 on the season, and the Eagles return to action on Wednesday for a home match against Parrish Community at 6:00 p.m.
