Montverde Academy alumnus Dakari Johnson is making waves in the NBA Developmental League.
In his second season with the Oklahoma City Blue, a D-League affiliate of the Oklahoma City Thunder, Johnson earned his way onto his first D-League All-Star team.
Johnson this year is averaging 8.4 points and 8.4 rebounds per game this season and earned D-League Performer of the Week Monday after averaging 24.3 points and 10.7 rebounds over his last three games.
In his first season with the Blue, Johnson averaged 12.3 points, 8.1 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.6 blocks per game which earned him D-League All-Rookie Team honors.
Johnson was drafted in 2015 after he spent two years at Kentucky under head coach John Calipari. Johnson never got his time to shine as he was back-ups behind Julius Randle, Karl-Anthony Towns and Willie Cauley-Stein who are all NBA players.
While at Montverde Academy, Johnson averaged 17.0 points, 11.0 rebounds and 4.3 blocks per game and was named to the 2013 McDonald's All-American Boys Game and the Jordan Brand Classic. Johnson started his high school career at St. Patrick High School in New Jersey where coach Kevin Boyle was. When coach Boyle came to Montverde Academy, Johnson followed.
