At the end of the second academic quarter, SIMA saw 117 upper school student-athletes making Academic Honor Roll with Summa Cum Laude or Magna Cum Laude recognition.
These student-athletes not only take on challenges on the field but in the classroom as well with many taking a handful of our 33 Advanced Placement (AP) classes. Coupled with AP classes, some of our international student-athletes could be taking English as a second language (ESL) class to improve their language development.
With over 64 percent of SIMA's student-athletes maintaining over a 3.0 grade point average (GPA), it reinforces the mindset expected of Head Coach Mike Potempa, that school comes before soccer. Coach Potempa instills in his teams the importance of valuing your education, especially the opportunity you have to expand your mind at Montverde Academy.
SIMA saw a steep improvement in the group of recognized scholars from the list of first quarter honor roll students which held 98 SIMA student-athletes. Coach Potempa and his coaching staff is determined to prepare each SIMA student-athlete with the tools that they need to succeed after they leave Montverde Academy.
