In their first game against former 2A State Champions Bolles High School, the Eagles started the first half strong with 4 goals in the first half coming from 2019 FIFA World Cup qualifier and FSU commit Jody Brown (Hat Trick) and freshman Isabella Flanigan. In second half, Bulgarian National Team player Vivianne Bessette added two goals of her own to seal the Lady Eagles' win. Oona Joknen, Sydney Rivera, Maria Tregansin also provided great defense that capped off a great victory.
In their final game of the WIST, the Eagles faced a tough matchup against Bartram Trail. After a goal from MVA captain and the University of Central Florida commit Maria Tregansin, Bartram Trail answered right back with a PK goal of their own. After the first half, the Eagles caught a second wind and scored back to back goals, one from Brown and another from Tregansin pushing the score to 3-1.
Bartram Trail would try to fight back after scoring another goal with 5 minutes left to play in the final half but the Eagles defense would prevail and mark their seventh win of the season.
"Bartram Trail is always a tough opponent," said Aristodemo. "Our girls pulled it together and beat two top-ranked teams that will most likely going to make it to the State Championship Finals."
About the WIST:
The Women's Invitational Showcase Tournament (WIST) is an elite girls soccer tournament that spans over a two day period. The tournament is played by invitation only and with each year, the level of competition has increased. Montverde Academy first began hosting the WIST in 2013. For the first two years, there were four participating teams in a bracket-style competition, giving the tournament a first-place champion. In 2015, the tournament expanded to eight teams and the format was altered to become a showcase. The change was made to focus on inviting college coaches and allowing the opportunity for the players to be recruited. The goal is to continue to make high school soccer relevant by bringing in the top teams from across the state of Florida. Currently, the WIST tournament is regarded as one of the top tournaments in the country at the high school level. With now 13 top-ranked teams across the entire state, this tournament proves to once again provide the highest level of female soccer in the state as well as the country.Â
