Gibson Jimerson: Athlete of the Week

Montverde Academy basketball post grad athlete and St.Louis University commit Gibson Jimerson has been awarded athlete of the week (February 4-10) for his incredible performances both on and off the court. Jimerson has a cumulative GPA of 4.32 earning Summa Cum Laude and is in the top percentile of the postgraduate class.

"He is a super efficient player, he is a player you don't want to take out of the game even if he needs a break, he's that good," said Kevin Boyle Jr. "From a classroom standpoint, he is the most consistent player who is always eligible to play because he's even better in his academics. Not everyone has a chance to play in the NBA or overseas, but if I had to pick someone to have a successful pro career, it would be him."

Interview with Athlete of the Week Gibson Jimerson
Q: What inspired you to play the game of basketball?
A: My dad played basketball when he was younger and I wanted to follow in his footsteps and so he taught me the game at an early age. After that, I just fell in love with it and my mom was always supportive as well. Even though my mom ran track for the University of Oregon, she enjoyed watching me play.

Q: What's it like joining the Center for Basketball Development Academy and playing for the postgraduate team?
A: Coming to Montverde Academy and joining the basketball program, I knew that it wasn't going to be easy. I knew that if I wanted to prove myself, I would have to work hard. I am able to play with such elite basketball players who have goals of playing the NBA and compete in the toughest postgraduate schedule in the nation. I learn a lot every day not just in basketball but also in the rigorous academics they have here. It is almost like a college which will be the next chapter of my life.

Q: What are your hobbies outside of basketball?
A: I really enjoy reading and playing chess. Whenever I get the chance to, I like to find books online or in the library to read or challenge some of my friends to a chess match.

Q: What do you want to major in college?
A: I really enjoy math and chemistry so I think maybe something in engineering or something in the medical field. Either way, I know that St. Louis University is the right college for me.
