The Montverde Academy Eagles post graduate basketball team defeated Southern Coast 91-87 at The Nest on Friday afternoon.
In the first half, the Eagles started off with an 18-8 run, but Southern Coast had a huge run, outscoring the Eagles 17-5 to take a 25-23 lead midway through the first half.
A close first half ended with Eagles guard Kaden Bedard hitting an incredible buzzer beater from just inside the half court line, and Eagles entered the locker room leading 50-49.Â
The second half was contentious, and the Eagles trailed 80-79 with about five minutes to play but strong defense and key shots in the final moments secured the win for MVA.
"It was a tough game, the guys played hard and we had a smaller size," head coach Giovonne Woods said. "Our guys played hard and tough so we came out with the win."
Leading scorer for the Eagles was Jacob White with 22 points (8/14 fg), (2/4 3p). He also had four rebounds, two steals and two assists. Mateus Bailey scored 15 points (5/10 fg), (3/6 3p) and had 4 assists. Bedard scored 13 points (4/5 fg), (1/2 3p) and had four rebounds and two assists.Â
"I think it was a tough game we came together as a team there is a lot of ball moment, there was a lot of hustle and rebounds." Bailey said. "It was a good game overall."
Eagles are now 10-4 on the season and their next game is Monday, November 6 vs Mont Academy at 6:00 pm in the Nest.
