Ana Julia Peixoto led the way for No. 2 Montverde Academy girls' volleyball team with nine kills in their dominant 3-0 (25-10, 25-9, 25-15) win over No. 7 Cornerstone Charter Academy in the quarterfinal round of the Florida High School Athletic Association 3A District 5 tournament at the Nest on Monday evening.
Montverde Academy jumped to a hot start during the first set thanks to numerous kills by Peixoto and Bailey Hollis.Peixoto had a match-high nine kills, while Hollis had eight. Luiza Manata joined in on the fun with six digs.
"We kept poking [Cornerstone Academy] with our strong serves all night long," head coach Jola Graham said. "We were able to find the seams and make the opponent move to the ball."
Montverde Academy went full throttle during the second set as they opened to an early 11-2 lead. After easily winning the second set 25-9, they started the third set on a 6-0 run and cruised to victory
"I think we did very well as a team," Peixoto said.."Even though the game was a pretty easy win for the girls, I can still improve on my timing and adapting faster to the setters, and work on a more aggressive serve."
MVA is back in action on Tuesday night for the semifinal round match against Windermere Prep in the Nest at 6:00 pm
