Liam McNeeley scored a team-high 19 points to lead the Montverde Academy to an 85-42 win over Legacy Early College on day three of the National Interscholastic Basketball Conference (NIBC) Sunshine Classic on Saturday night.
In the first quarter McNeeley scores a three-pointers and a layup with the three point from Asa Newell, and Montverde Academy led quickly 8-0. Legacy Early College requested for timeout with the score 10-4. After that Derik Queen scored four points in a row and the score was 14-6. Queen's two points in the last minute of the first quarter plus Liam McNeeley's three points, the quarter's end gave MVA 21-8 lead.
In the second quarter, Sean Stewart assisted Queen and scored two points, then Dravyn Gibbs Lawhorn scored a three-pointer, and the Eagles' lead was 26-8. In the end Chris Johnson made a three point shot, and the Eagles led 39-20.
In the third quarter, McNeeley's long-range three-pointer and Cooper Flagg's shot helped the team score five points, later Kwame Evans then made a three point shot help MVA lead 52-27. Sean Stewart assists Chris Johnson for a nice layup and it gave the Eagles a 60-33 lead in the third quarter. The Eagles cruised the rest of the way to complete a three game sweep in the Sunshine Classic and improve to 4-1 overall this season.
MVA is back in action on Thursday, December 8 against Bishop Walsh in day one of the Bob Kirk Invitational Showcase in Cumberland, Maryland at 6:00 pm.
