Sanford, Fla.— The Montverde Academy baseball team scored 10 runs in the top of the fifth inning to blow the game wide open and defeat Orangewood Christian 17-6 in five innings at the Boombah Sports Complex on Wednesday morning at the Florida League High School Invitational.

With the win, the Eagles are now 8-3 overall and have gone 2-0 in pool play. However, due to the tournament's tie breaker rule (fewest runs allowed amongst tied teams), MVA did not win pool play and will play in the consolation games on Thursday and Friday.

In Wednesday's win, after taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, the Eagles fell behind by allowing Orangewood to score three runs in the bottom half to go up 3-1.

It was all Montverde Academy from there though as the Eagles scored six runs in the top of the fourth to take a 7-3 lead, before a 10-run fifth inning made the score 17-3 before winning 17-6.

Salvador Alvarez had a big game, going 3-for-3 with two runs and three runs batted in. Fellow teammate Anthony Cole went 2-for-3 with a triple, three runs and three runs batted in. Victor Martinez went 2-for-4 with two runs and two runs batted in, while AJ Goytia went 1-for-3 with a run and three runs batted in. Eric Correa finished the day 1-for-3 with three runs and a run batted in.

Yulian Batista earned the win on the mound going 4.0 innings and allowing four runs on just one hit while striking out five.
