Montverde, Fla.— The top seeded Montverde Academy boys' lacrosse team has punched its ticket into the championship game of the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) District playoffs as the Eagles soared to a 21-3 win over No. 4 Trinity Prep in the semifinal round of the District 5 playoffs on Tuesday evening.
MVA led the entire way in the contest. The Eagles scored the first two goals of the game within the first minute of the contest to lead 2-0 quickly. MVA rapidly increased its lead all throughout the first twelve minutes and led 11-2 by the end of the first quarter.
The Eagles continued to increase their lead the rest of the way. They led 14-3 at halftime before outscoring the visiting Saints 7-0 in the second half.
Coen Woodland netted a game-high six goals in the win, while Spencer Odier and Seth Isenhour had three each. Brandon Williams and Drew Glass also had a multi goal game with two each, while Josh Briggs, Mason Eldridge, Jack Green, Josh Howe, Matthew Westlake added one each.
Isenhour added five assists in the win, while Odier had four.
As a unit, MVA had 52 groundballs and were led by Zack Hobson and Troy Scott with six each in the win. Tommy Barrows and Odier added four each for the Eagles.
The Eagles were successful on 23 of 28 clear attempts and won the battle on faceoffs 14-13. Zander Brasher won seven faceoffs and JT Glass won six.
Eddie Roth started in goal and made three saves in the first half, while Shafer Bergman had two saves in the second half.
The Eagles will now face the No. 2 seed Lake Highland Prep on Thursday at 6:00 pm in the district championship game at Montverde Academy. MVA faced Lake Highland Prep in the Citrus League championship game on March 28, and the Eagles defeated the Highlanders 15-10 that night. The winner of the district championship game will receive an automatic qualifier into the regional playoffs, which start on Wednesday, April 20.
