Montverde, Fla.— The Montverde Academy boys' lacrosse team fell to Lake Highland Prep 13-8 in the championship game of the 2022 Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) class 1A District 5 championship on Thursday.
In Thursday's game, the top seeded Eagles scored the first goal of the game forty-five seconds into it to lead 1-0 early. But the No. 2 seed Highlanders of Lake Highland Prep scored five unanswered goals before ending the first quarter with a 5-1 lead.
Montverde Academy battled from behind the rest of the way. The Eagles outscored the Highlanders 3-1 in the second quarter to pull to within two goals and the score was 6-4 at halftime.
But the two goal deficit was as close as the Eagles would get. After a 2-2 third quarter, the Highlanders scored four unanswered goals to start the fourth to put the game out of reach.
The Eagles were led by Aaron Williams and Spencer Odier with three goals each, while Jack Green and Josh Briggs both had one. Seth Isenhour had the Eagles' lone assist in the game. Ryan Peterson, Zach Hobson and Troy Scott each had six groundballs for Montverde Academy.
Eddie Roth made 17 saves in net for the Eagles.
With the loss, the Eagles are now 10-6 on the season and will await to see if their season will continue as MVA is in the hunt for one of the four at-large bids into the FHSAA regional playoffs.
