Montverde Academy boy's basketball alum Scottie Barnes '20, after a successful rookie season in the National Basketball Association, was rewarded for his great play by being named the league's Kia Rookie of the Year.

The announcement was made on Saturday afternoon. Barnes, who plays for the Toronto Raptors, saw action in 74 regular season games (starting in all of them) and averaged 15.3 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.08 steals and 0.74 blocks in 35.4 minutes in 74 games, leading all rookies in minutes, ranking third in points and rebounds and finishing fifth in assists, steals and blocks.

Barnes received 378 points (48 first-place votes) from a global panel of 100 sportswriters and broadcasters.

Barnes and his Toronto Raptor teammates are currently competing in the NBA playoffs in the quarterfinal round against the Philadelphia 76ers.
