Montverde, Fla.— The Montverde Academy softball team has earned the No. 1 seed for the 2022 Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) district playoffs which are set to begin on Tuesday May 3.
The Eagles will have home field advantage throughout the district playoffs, and will host the semifinal round game on May 3 at 7:00 pm against the winner of the play-in between No. 4 Lake Highland Prep and No. 5 Trinity Prep. The play-in game will take place at Montverde Academy Tuesday at 4:30 pm preceding the Eagles' semifinal round game. If the Eagles win on Tuesday, they will play for the district championship on Thursday, May 5 at 7:00 pm against the winner between No. 2 seed Windermere Prep and No. 3 Cornerstone Charter Academy.
Montverde Academy comes into the district playoffs with a 15-8 overall record, a perfect 3-0 against teams in the district this regular season. MVA beat Windermere Prep 5-2, on February 23, Lake Highland Prep, 12-2, on March 11 and Trinity Prep, 7-0, on March 28.
The Eagles own a .322 team batting average, with 34 doubles, seven triples, five home runs and 118 runs batted in. Overall, MVA has scored 145 runs and have outscored opponents a combined 145-67. The Eagles have been led by Danika Spinogatti with a team-leading .375 batting average and a team-high nine doubles. Yani Guzman meanwhile enters the postseason with a .342 batting average with team-highs of 25 hits, three triples, two home runs and 22 runs batted in.
Pitching wise, the Eagles have sported a 1.30 team earned run average, allowing 28 earned runs in 151.0 innings this season. Nevaeh Williams has pitched a team-high 58.1 innings and has allowed eight earned runs for a 0.96 earned run average. She and teammate Faith Fournier have a team co-high six wins this season.
