The season came to a close for the Montverde Academy softball team on Wednesday afternoon, as the Eagles fell to Cornerstone Charter Academy 3-2 in nine innings in the semifinal round of the 2026 FHSAA Class 2A Region 2 championship in Belle Isle.
With the loss, MVA finishes the season with a 19-6 overall record.
The Eagles found themselves trailing early after Cornerstone Charter Academy scored two runs in the top of the second inning to take a 2-0 advantage.
MVAÂ continued battling throughout the afternoon and finally broke through in the bottom of the sixth inning. Cali Flowers delivered in a huge moment, blasting a two-run home run to center field to even the score at 2-2 and energize the MVA dugout.
The game remained tied into extra innings before Cornerstone Charter Academy pushed across the go-ahead run with two outs in the top of the ninth inning. MVAÂ was unable to answer in the bottom half, ending the Eagles' postseason run.
MVA totaled three hits in the contest. Flowers accounted for the biggest swing of the afternoon with her game-tying home run, while Missy Odom and Colby Reish each added singles.
Nevaeh Williams turned in a strong performance in the circle despite suffering the tough loss. She pitched all nine innings, allowing three runs, two earned, on eight hits while striking out 11 batters.
