The Montverde Academy lacrosse team's quest for the state championship ended on Saturday evening as the Eagles lost to The Benjamin School 11-6 in the championship round at the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) regional tournament.
With the loss, the Eagles have been eliminated from the playoffs and their season ends with a 12-7 overall record.
Aaron Williams led the way for the Eagles scoring five of the team's six goals in the contest, while Jack Green scored the other. Troy Scott and Ryan Peterson meanwhile had a team co-high three groundballs each.
The Benjamin school led 4-2 after the first period and 7-4 at halftime. The game was 8-4 after three quarters, and the Eagles opened the fourth quarter scoring two straight goals to pull to within 8-6 with 5:30 to play. But Benjamin scored three goals in the final 5:24 to pull away and secure the win.
Eddie Roth made 14 saves on the night for Montverde Academy.
