The Montverde Academy girls' basketball team opened the game on a 15-0 run en route to a 73-16 win as the Eagles defeated Haines City High School at the Nest on Tuesday evening.
Kiarra Orphelia scored a game-high 15 points in the win, while Sahnya Jah added 13. Mjracle Sheppard had six steals for the Eagles.
After opening the game on the 15-0 run, Montverde Academy continued to increase its lead. The Eagles were up 23-2 by the end of the first quarter, and they had a 49-3 lead at halftime.
The entire roster saw play time, and the reserves played the entire second half.
The Eagles are now 17-0 on the season, and will compete next in the St. James Martin Luther King Classic in Washington, DC on January 14 and 16. The Eagles will play Mount Zion Prep on Saturday at 2:15 pm and will square off against Sidwell Friends on Monday at 2:15 pm.
