The Montverde Academy boys' basketball team dominated from start to finish and beat Christopher Columbus High School 89-61 in day two of the 2023 Nike EYBL Scholastic Sunshine Classic at the Nest on Friday evening.

The Eagles raced out to a 25-6 lead by the end of the first quarter and maintained a comfortable lead throughout the night. MVA 47-18 by halftime before coasting in the second half.

Five players scored in double figures and the Eagles were led by Cooper Flagg with 23 points, eight rebounds and seven assists, while Liam McNeeley had 20 points and eight rebounds. Robert Wright added 18 points and Asa Newell had 13.

MVA held a 39-21 advantage in rebounding, including a 17-7 advantage on the offensive side, leading to a 24-7 advantage on second chance points.

The Eagles will play Sunrise Christian on Saturday in the final day of the 2023 Sunshine Classic at 7:00 pm. It will be a rematch of sorts for MVA who was eliminated by them last year in the quarterfinal round of the 2023 GEICO High School National championship.
