Cooper Flagg had a double-double of 21 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Montverde Academy boys' basketball team to a 73-59 win in the championship game of the 2023 City of Palms Classic in Fort Myers, Florida on Saturday evening.
The win improves the Eagles to a perfect 13-0 record on the season, and the championship by the Eagles marks the sixth time in program history that MVA has won the prestigious tournament.
Flagg's 21 points and 14 rebounds were team-highs in the win. He also had a team-high four blocks and had three assists. Meanwhile fellow teammate Liam McNeeley added 15 points in the win, while Derik Queen had 12 points and Robert Wright had 11 points and a team-high six assists.
The Eagles never trailed in the game and led 23-14 after the first quarter and 40-28 at halftime.
MVA returns to action on Friday and Saturday January 5 and 6 for the Maine Event in Portland, Maine. The Eagles will take on Gonzaga College High School on Friday at 7:30 pm at Cross Insurance Arena, and MVA will throw down with CATS Academy on Saturday at 6:00 pm at the Portland Expo Center.
