Matthew Heyl tossed seven shutout innings, while striking out 10 en route to pitching a no-hitter as the Eagles defeated Faith Academy 5-0 in day one of the Alabama Showdown in Hoover.
Heyl allowed one walk and faced two over the minimum in the win, his second of the season as he is 2-0 on the year. MVA as a team improved to 3-0 overall this season.
At the plate, the Eagles had four hits, including two by Logan Chapman who went 2-for-2 with a run and an RBI. Anthony Cole went 1-for-3 and hit his team leading second home run of the season. AJ Goytia scored twice in the win.
MVA will play a winner's bracket game on Friday at 7:00 pm against the winner of the other game in their bracket between Sandy Creek and Hoover High School.
