Montverde Academy's varsity softball team won a home game against Oviedo 5-4, Wednesday evening.
Pitcher Nevaeh Williams started off strong, shutting out the visiting Lions for the first five innings. MVA scored four runs in the third inning and another in the fifth to lead 5-0 after five innings.
Oviedo was able to make a comeback in the sixth inning with two runs and another two in the seventh inning. MVA was able to hold their lead in the seventh inning, leading them to the win.
Williams pitched for 6.1 innings and had three strikeouts, while Emerson Gunkel pitched for 0.2 innings.
Lexi Perez had a great game with two hits and two runs. Additionally, Colby Reish had a great game with one run, two hits, and six putouts while fielding.Â
Luna Taboas had one hit and one run while also scoring on a suicide squeeze in the third inning.
"We just have to minimize the mental things but other than that we are still moving and grooving," head coach Caitlin Griffis said.
Even with such a challenging competitor the MVA team was able to pull through and finish with a one run win.
Montverde Academy softball team is now preparing for its next game for the Citrus League Championship against Bishop Moore on Thursday.
