The Montverde Academy came out scoring… and continued to score for all 32 minutes on Thursday evening.
Behind a 42 point first quarter and a 70 point first half, the Eagles left no doubt about what the result would be early on, as Montverde Academy defeated Imani Christian Academy 127-40 in front of a large energetic crowd at the Nest on day one of the Montverde Academy Invitational Tournament (MAIT).
No MVA player played more than 19 minutes, and no one played fewer than 12 minutes in what was a balanced attack by the Eagles.
MVA defeated the opposition in numerous facets of the game. The Eagles held an overwhelming 72-16 advantage on points in the paint, 33-1 on points off turnovers, 27-6 on second chance points, 18-0 on fastbreak points and 62-8 on points off the bench.
Twenty-one of MVA's 62 points off the bench came from Lucas Lima who shot 7-for-7 from inside the three point line and 8-for-9 overall in just 13 minutes of play.
Meanwhile, six other Eagles scored in double figures, including Derik Queen with 16, Asa Newell with 15, Liam McNeeley with 15, Cooper Flagg with 13 , Ace Flagg with 11 and Robert Wright with 11.
MVA also held a 56-29 advantage in rebounding, and the Eagles were led by Caleb Gaskins with 11.
Thirty-five of MVA's 48 made field goals were assisted, as Robert Wright had six dimes, followed by McNeeley and Dhani Miller with five each.
The win improves the Eagles' overall record to 20-0 on the season.
Day two of the MAIT tournament will put the Eagles against fellow Central Florida juggernaut Oak Ridge High School who beat The Rock School 78-64 in its game.
