Montverde Academy twin brothers Cooper Flagg and Ace Flagg gave their hometown friends, family and fans a perfect reminder of what makes them so special. For the second evening in a row, the Flagg brothers, and their Eagles teammates played in front of a capacity crowd in Portland, Maine and dominated once again.
Behind a game-high 29 points and nine rebounds from Cooper and five points, four rebounds and two steals by Ace, the Eagles finished off a weekend sweep at the Maine Event with a 105-58 win over CATS Academy in front of 3,500 fans at a sold-out Portland Expo Center on Saturday evening.
Cooper, Ace and the rest of the Montverde Academy boys' basketball team is now 15-0 this season.
The Eagles opened the game outscoring the opponent 22-6 through the first eight minutes en route to leading from start to finish. The lead increased in the second quarter and MVA was up 51-23 by halftime.
MVA shot a staggering 71 percent from the field (40 for 56) in the win. Asa Newell, Derik Queen and Caleb Gaskins were all perfect from the field in the win. Newell was 7-for-7 from the field and scored 20 points, along with seven rebounds. Meanwhile, Queen was 6-for-6 from the floor and had 14 points and six rebounds. Gaskins was 5-for-5 and had 12 points. Liam McNeeley also scored in double figures with 14 points on 5-for-6 shooting.
The 105 point performance by MVA marks the third time this regular season (fourth time overall) the Eagles scored over 100 points in a game this season.
The Eagles will return to campus for a few days before heading back to New England for the Hall of Fame Classic in Springfield, Massachusetts next weekend. MVA's next game is Friday, January 12 for day one of the classic against Oak Hill Academy at Blake Arena at 7:30 pm.
