Montverde Academy boys varsity basketball team won 117-33 on Tuesday night at the Nest against Florida Coastal Prep with CJ Ingram having a game-high 8 assists and 10 points.
Hakeem Weems helped with 19 points followed by teammate Hudson Greer with 17 points to lead Montverde Academy to the big win.Â
Weems' dunks had the whole crowd going crazy, the Montverde Academy student section standing cheering for the Eagles.
"We always want to leave a statement, no matter who are we playing, it's Montverde," said senior Dante Allen. "If we play the way we did tonight it's going to be very hard for anybody to beat us."
MVA had a 29-9 lead by the end of the first quarter, and a 63-16 advantage by halftime. By the end of the third quarter, the Eagles were up 95-21 as the game was well in hand early.
It was the first game of the season and everyone's eyes are open for what's coming up for this new Montverde Academy's boys team after last year's top players graduated like Cooper Flagg and Derik Queen.
"It's a good start because we have a tough game, our next game we are playing Wasatch," said head coach Kevin Boyle. "Everybody is felling probably pretty good about themselves, they all played fairly well tonight, so it's a good confidence booster going into that much better than going in questioning yourself as a player."
Montverde Academy's next game is against Wasatch Academy in Mt. Pleseant, Utah on Monday at 7:00 pm Eastern Time.
