The Montverde Academy boys' basketball team lost its first game since the 2023 GEICO High School Nationals Quarterfinals as MVA fell to Brewster Academy 59-47 in the Nike EYBL Scholastic Showcase at the NBA Cup in Las Vegas on Sunday afternoon.

The loss was the first the entire 2024 calendar year and it ends the Eagles' 38 game win streak.

Despite the loss, the Eagles got a solid game out of Dante Allen who led the Eagles with 16 points and had five rebounds, while Cj Ingram had 11 points and a team-high six rebounds.

The Bobcats led almost the entire contest. After holding a slim 11-9 lead by the end of the first quarter, they outscored MVA 14-6 in the second period to take a 25-15 lead at halftime.

The Eagles held a 28-26 advantage on points in the paint, but the Bobcats held a 35-27 rebounding edge and held MVA to a season-low 35 percent shooting from the field (16-for-46), including 11 percent from behind the three-point line (2-for-18).

The Eagles are now 5-1 on the season.

The Eagles are back in action on Wednesday December 18th against Archbishop Carroll in the first round of the 2024 City of Palms Classic in Fort Myers, FL. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 pm.
