Montverde, FL (December 4, 2024) – While the weather outside may be frightful, the action inside should be more than delightful!
Montverde Academy's Edgecenter for Sportsmanship and Wellness (The Nest) is set to host the Nike EYBL Scholastic Sunshine Classic presented by Fountain Auto Group this Friday and Saturday, December 6 and 7.
The event will showcase some of the top high school basketball programs from across the country, promising two days of intense high-level competition and exciting match-ups.
The action tips off on Friday, December 6, when nationally No. 15 ranked Brewster Academy (Wolfeboro, NH) faces off against nationally No. 2 ranked Long Island Lutheran (Brookville, NY) at 6 p.m. After that, the nationally No. 3 ranked Montverde Academy takes on Orangeville Academy (Orangeville, ON) at 8 p.m.
On Saturday, Brewster Academy will square off against Orangeville Academy at 5 p.m., before Montverde Academy locks horns Long Island Lutheran at 7 p.m.
In addition, before Saturday's Nike EYBL Scholastic action, Montverde Academy Center for Basketball Development's (CBD) Varsity Gold roster will compete in a showcase game against The Potter's House (Jacksonville, FL) at 2:45 p.m.
Also, members and coaches from four of Montverde Academy's 2023-24 championship teams will receive their championship rings during various pregame and halftime ceremonies within the event.
The returning players and coaches from last season's Chipotle Boys High School National championship basketball team will receive their rings prior to their game against Orangeville Academy on Friday.
The 2024 Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) state champion softball team will receive their rings during halftime of that game.
Then on Saturday, the 2024 FHSAA state champion boys and girls track & field teams will receive their rings at halftime of Saturday's Montverde Academy vs Long Island Lutheran game.
"The Sunshine Classic is always an exciting event for our school community to see really high level basketball and get our players some elite competition," said Director of Athletic Operations Khrystal Phiri. "I am really pleased to be able to host it for another year."
Tickets for the event are $20 each day and parking is free. The games will also stream live each day with Friday's action being streamed live on BallerTV (subscription required), while Saturday's games will stream live on League Ready's YouTube channel. The CBD's Varsity Gold game against The Potter's House will stream live on the NFHS Network (subscription required).
