On Friday night the Montverde Academy boys' basketball team faced Canadian high school juggernaut Orangeville Prep in a game that left no doubt about Montverde Academy's dominance. The Eagles defeated the visiting Bears 82-32 in a matchup took place at "The Nest," Montverde's home court, with fans filling the stands to cheer on their team during day one of the 2024 Nike EYBL Scholastic Sunshine Classic presented by Fountain Auto Group.
From the opening tip, Montverde set the tone with suffocating defense and a relentless offense. By the end of the first quarter, the Eagles were already up 24-2.
The onslaught continued in the second quarter, with MVA extending its lead to 48-7 by halftime.
Kayden Allen was the standout performer, leading the team with 13 points by halftime and 17 points overall. His smooth mid-range game was nearly unstoppable.
"It felt good we won by fifty, we expected that though," Allen said. "If we play like that, I feel like the rest of our season will go good."
The second half was more of the same as the Eagles cruised to victory.
"It was a good start. Obviously, there was a lot of separation in the score. We had more athleticism and talent and better guards, so we were able to get away from them," head coach Kevin Boyle said.
Boyle also highlighted Allen's contributions saying "Kayden's been really good. Most importantly, he's been looking to share the ball and get other people involved, and in a funny way, he's been scoring more since he's become more unselfish."
In addition to Kayden, Dante Allen added 17 points of his own in the win. CJ Ingram had a double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds for MVA who is now 4-0 on the young season.
This dominant win sets the stage for MVA's next game on Saturday at 7:00 pm, against Long Island Lutheran in day two of the tournament at The Nest.
