Nevaeh Williams struck out 12 batters and scattered three hits while the Eagles' offense provided more than enough run support to lift the Montverde Academy softball team to a 7-0 win over Hagerty High School at the MVA Softball Complex in the 2024 season opener on Wednesday evening.
MVA scored a run in the third and fourth innings to lead 2-0 early in the game, before breaking the game open with five runs in the bottom of the sixth.
The Eagles pounded out 10 hits and were led by Luna Taboas, Lexi Perez and Ava Penkal with two hits each. Taboas went 2-for-4 with a big bases clearing double in the sixth that drove in three runs. Perez was 2-for-4 with a home run, and Penkal was 2-for-3 with a double in the win.
MVA also got one hit each from Jenna Meder (1-for-3, triple), Ari Jimenez (1-for-4, RBI), Leila Susaia (1-for-3, RBI) and Danika Spinogatti (1-for-3).
The Eagles are back in action on Thursday for a home game against Lake Highland Prep at 6:00 pm.
