The Montverde Academy baseball team, the No. 1 seed, defeated No. 8 seed Crooms Academy 14-0 in the quarterfinal round of the 2024 Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) Class 3A District 9 tournament at Lindor Field on Monday evening.
The Eagles scored three runs in the bottom of the first, before scoring another two in the bottom of the second to lead 5-0. MVA then scored eight runs in the bottom of the third to lead 13-0, putting the game out of reach in the process.
Anthony Picciano went 2-for-2, scored twice and had three runs batted in. Donald Steward went 2-for-3 with a home run and three runs batted in. Danati Frontudo was 3-for-3 with a double and two runs batted in.Â
Federic Irving earned the win, going three innings, faced the minimum and struck out one. Arlando Gonzalez finished the final two innings in relief and allowed one hit while preserving the shutout.
The Eagles are now 13-8 overall this season and will play again on Tuesday at 4:00 pm in the semifinal round against the winner between No. 4 seed South Sumter High School and No. 5 seed Trinity Prep at Lindor Field.
