On the final day of the 2024 Kissimmee Klassic in Kissimmee, the Montverde Academy softball team went 1-1. The Eagles lost 1-0 to Melbourne High School, before winning easily in the third place game, 15-3 over Winter Springs High School.
In the loss against Melbourne, the Eagles were limited to two hits, with one by Lexi Perez and the other by Elena Friedman. Nevaeh Williams pitched brilliantly allowing just one run on five hits with 12 strikeouts.
In the win over Winter Springs, the Eagles won via the five inning mercy rule, capped by a grand slam home run by Lexi Perez. Perez was 2-for-4 in the win. Danika Spinogatti also had a big game going 2-for-4 with a home run and three runs batted in. Ari Jimenez was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and two stolen bases, while Colby Reish was 2-for-2 with a pair of runs.
Emerson Gunkel earned the win in relief after going 4.0 innings and allowing no runs on four hits with three strikeouts.
MVA is now 18-4 overall this season and is back in action on Thursday for the Citrus League Championship at The First Academy on Thursday evening. The Eagles are the No. 1 seed and will battle for the athletics department's eighth Citrus League championship of the academic year at 6:30 pm against No. 2 seed The First Academy.
