Montverde, Fla. (April 9, 2024)—Montverde Academy Department of Athletics has announced that girls' basketball national champion team member Jaloni Cambridge has been named the Montverde Academy Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending April 7.
Cambridge solidified her 2023-24 season by leading the Eagles to victory in three straight games at the 2024 Chipotle High School Nationals championship, commencing with MVA winning its third consecutive national championship.
In the three wins on the biggest stage for girls' high school basketball, Cambridge was phenomenal, averaging 23.0 points, 10.7 assists, 7.3 rebounds and 2.3 steals.
She opened the tournament with a triple-double of 19 points, 14 rebounds and 12 assists in a 65-49 win over Sidwell Friends in the quarterfinal round on Thursday. She followed that up by scoring 33 points, including a buzzer-beating shot to win the game, and offering 11 assists in a 79-78 win over Long Island Lutheran in the semifinal round on Friday. Then in Saturday's championship game, she had 17 points, nine assists and six rebounds as the Eagles beat IMG Academy 61-53.
A senior and Ohio State commit, Cambridge had a great season all year long. In 27 games this season, she averaged 20.7 points, 8.7 assists and 6.7 rebounds per game. Her 8.7 assists per game was top in the state of Florida and tied for sixth highest nationally.
She scored in double digits in 26 of the 27 games and netted at least 30 points in five games this season. She scored a season-high 36 in a win against Clarksville Christian on December 30. Cambridge also registered 10 double digit assist figure games and had three triple-doubles on the season.
Shortly before the Chipotle National Championship tournament, Cambridge had been named a McDonald's All American, the MaxPreps state of Florida Player of the Year, a Naismith Trophy first team All American and the Gatorade girls basketball state of Florida Player of the Year.
Now Chipotle High School National champions for the third year in a row, the Montverde Academy girls' basketball team finishes the 2023-24 high school basketball season with a 24-4 overall record.
